The case problem approach to learning is used by the Financial Accounting and Statistics books. Each book does this in both the learning outlines and practice problems by exploring a continuous problem (case) depicting how Darin Jones and Linda Smith use accounting and statistics in the operation of their businesses. While in college, Darin opens a small laundry business and Linda opens a small ironing business. Upon graduation, Darin opens Darin's Music Emporium and Linda opens Linda's Video Showcase. Both business are very successful, bring in new partners, and are eventually sold for a large profit. Darin and Linda use their profits to open corporations named Future Horizons Corporation and The Computer Warehouse.
